                                                                            VOLUNTEERS

Angus Cardiac Group has obtained funding, from various sources, for a project to provide exercise – chair based or circuit – for everyone in Angus with a long term condition and this will improve their quality of life as well as providing physiological and psychological benefits.

The project is an alliance between Angus Cardiac Group, COPD Group, NHS Tayside (Angus Community Health Partnership) & Angus Council.

We will begin pilot programmes in March 2010 in all  six burghs in Angus.   These will be chair-based exercises.

WE NEED VOLUNTEERS.    Neither the local authority nor the NHS will pay for transportation of participants, for class assistants, for counsellors, etc. so we need volunteers to take on various roles:

  •       Collecting and returning to their homes those who are unable to make their own way to classes.

  •       (NB ALL VOLUNTEER DRIVERS WILL BE COMPENSATED AT THE RATE OF .40p per mile)

  •       Taking a class or helping an instructor to take a class.

  •       Making the coffee, putting out equipment, etc.

  •       Befriending or buddying – could be just one reassuring conversation, a welcome to an exercise class or a longer association!

TRAINING – Training (where needed) will be given and two of our members have already completed this training.

BENEFITS – Volunteering doesn’t only help others . . . . it also is beneficial for the volunteer.   Everyone has different reasons for volunteering but mostly it is a desire to help others that are, perhaps, less fortunate than ourselves OR to give something back in appreciation for what has been does for us.

CONTRACT – you will not be asked to sign a contract or to give any guarantees as to how long you will continue as a volunteer.   We obviously hope that you will continue to work with us for as long as possible but you will be free to leave at any time.  No one needs stress in their life so, if you find that what you are doing is stressful then  back away and we will understand.  But we hope that you will enjoy what you do to help the project and that you will pass your enthusiasm for the project on to others so that we can recruit more volunteers.  Remember ANYONE CAN BE A VOLUNTEER!

FEEDBACK – if, at any time, any volunteer feels that things could be done differently, or perhaps better, then let us know.   We always appreciate constructive comment or feedback.

To volunteer, or to obtain further information about volunteering, please contact Gordon Snedden.
